During the freshman year, students will begin to develop a personal relationship with each other and with Jesus. Activities will bring Christ into every-day situations to help students develop a self-identity that centers on God and the fundamentals of our Catholic Church. There will also be a focus on basic knowledge and apologetic of the Church to help teens defend it among their friends and in their schools. At different points during the year, these topics will be covered:
Jesus and the Trinity The Eucharist Anointing of the Sick
The Blessed Virgin Mary Confirmation Purgatory
Baptism Matrimony Basic Apologetic
Penance Holy Orders
Sophomore year is about the bible and how it pertains to the teens lives. It goes over salvation history as a way to show how God has been moving through the lives of his people. We are using the T3 program. This is a DVD and workbook combination. There are a few different options as to how to do this. You can work with the 8 sessions on the DVDS or you can do the portraits starting on page 28 of the leaders guide. Salvation history is more than just a bunch of old men and women who lived a long time ago and did some nice things. It is the living breathing word of God and it can speak to all of us even today.
During the junior year, students will use the History of the Church and Church History: A Course on the People of God textbooks to briefly touch on Catholic Church History and its impact in today's world. Using the supplementary Horizons resource books students will go through various interactive lessons to discuss challenges teens face to living the Christian life in the 21 st century. At different points during the year, these topics will be covered:
Lives of the Saints
Living the Christian Life
Being a person of, peace, hope and charity
Coping with Death and Grief
Hope in the Face of Death
New Age Practices
This is a group's final year in high school. In many ways they are adults either legally or maybe even mentally. The Godteen couples have watched them grow from goofy teenagers into mature young adults. This is not the ending of a journey but the beginning of a whole new one. College is on the horizon and all that that entails. The goal for the year is to get the seniors as ready as possible for that wide open world that is just waiting for them. We will send them out prepared and ready to face the challenges knowing that no matter what they can always lean on God and His Church.
